VICTORY WALK, 5,500 miles around the UK coAstline

"Without doubt, “these boots are made for walking”! "

In 2017, the Naval Service celebrated the centenary of the Women’s Royal Naval Service (WRNS), formed in 1917, and recognised the vital contribution made by naval women over the last century. To mark her close involvement with WRNS100, and her retirement from the Royal Naval Reserve, Commander Jane Allen decided to undertake a solo anti-clockwise charity walk around the coastline of mainland Britain. She estimates it will take a year and cover approximately 5,500 miles....

"In 2007 LOWA boots took me the length of the country from John o’ Groats to Land’s End (1,200 miles). Next, when I walked across the country from west to east (200 miles) – again I chose LOWA. After those two adventures, I knew which boots to choose for my present Solo Round Britain Charity Coastal Walk."

"In October 2017, I started my ‘Victory Walk’ and the ultimate test - 5,500 miles - with 5 pairs of LOWA boots. So far, we’ve covered over 1,300 miles together. Without doubt, “these boots are made for walking”! "

LES Gorges Du Verdon, south-eastern France (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence)

"An extraordinarily beautiful walk in the baking heat of Southern France"
 

The Sentier Martel hiking trail follows an undulating path along the North side of the gorge, from the winding mountain road down to the water and back again. The sheer scale of the gorge, eagles and vultures overhead, lush autumnal colours and the emerald green water running below make for a truly beautiful day's walk. Whilst not the most challenging walk I've ever done, the fairly steep climbs and descents can be pretty heavy-going on the calves and the heat and dry, dusty air also make for a sweaty day's walking.

There's welcome relief from the heat with spells in the shade and a 670 meter long tunnel toward the end, with a couple of opportunities to dunk your head in the river as the path follows close to the river Verdon below. Highly recommend a visit!

My Renegade's were perfect - keeping my feet cool, dry and comfortable.

I have just returned from hiking the Appalachian Trail. I left the UK in a competitors branded Hiking Boot.

Unexpectedly having to replace them I reluctantly purchased a pair of Renegade GTX mid wide, not because I knew of the brand but because they were the only pair in the outfitters that fitted me. They proved to be superb, an instant fit with no rubbing or blisters. Because of the logistics I had to replace them earlier than needed at 800 miles (I believe they were good for up to another 100-150 miles) and when I replaced them I could not tell the difference in fit.

Brilliant boots which lasted me the rest of the 2,200 miles and when I replace them within the next 200 miles they shall definitely be LOWA.

I've been a passionate walker for many years and never happier than when trekking along the South-West coast path or walking more locally in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.  In the last two years the length of walks taken by my husband and I have been somewhat curtailed by the addition to our family by our two year old son, but that has not stopped us going on adventures!  The Avebury henge monument in Wiltshire is a firm favourite destination with us all both as a location in its own right as well as a starting/end point for walks in the area.

I discovered the Lowa Renegade GTX Mid boot a number of years ago and will now not wear anything else! I also quickly converted my husband and similarly this is now his favourite boot!  It's lightweight and super comfortable - we love the fact you can put them straight on from new and go walking without having to wear them in.  An excellent all terrain boot that work whether you are navigating a challenging coast path (the route between St Ives and Zennor comes to mind!) or just enjoying a gentle walk.
